Audi completes the German premium trio with a range running from the A1 city car to large SUVs, and an interior finish that remains one of its most consistent arguments.

As at BMW and Mercedes, the used fleet is mostly diesel and largely fitted with automatic gearboxes, reflecting business and motorway use.

The used-car range

The A3 clearly dominates the offer, as a saloon and as a Sportback, ahead of the A4 in the family segment and the Q3 among compact SUVs. The A1 covers the city-car format.

Beyond that, the A5 and A6 occupy the coupe and executive segments, and the Q5 and Q7 the family SUV segment.

Audi shares platforms and engines extensively with Volkswagen, Skoda and Seat: an A3 and a Golf of the same generation have a great deal in common, which makes the comparison at equal budget worthwhile.

Engines and drivetrain

Diesel is in the majority, with the TDI units behind the make's motorway economy. TFSI petrol is well represented on the A1 and A3.

An automatic gearbox is fitted to most of the fleet, usually an S tronic dual-clutch. Its oil change is specified at intervals and should appear in the service book.

quattro four-wheel drive is common on powerful versions and on SUVs; it adds components, differentials and a transfer case, whose servicing should be checked.
