The core of the offer is four models: the 308 and 208 for compacts and city cars, the 3008 and 2008 for SUVs. Between them they account for a large share of the Peugeot listings online.

The 208 is the way in: a city car, mostly petrol, available at every mileage level. The 308 covers the compact segment, as a hatchback and as an SW estate, and it is the make's best-supplied model.

On the SUV side the 2008 uses the 208's underpinnings and the 3008 those of the 308, with markedly more size and interior space. The range is completed by the seven-seat 5008 and by the Partner and Expert vans.

Engines

What to check

On PureTech petrol engines with a wet cambelt running in oil, keeping to the replacement intervals is a documented point of attention. Ask for the invoice rather than relying on the mileage.

On recent diesels, check the particulate filter's service history and the pattern of journeys: strictly urban use is the worst case.

On versions with the central touchscreen, test every function during the drive. It is an expensive part to replace out of warranty.
